What is CPT?

CPT is based on the theory that maladaptive thoughts and beliefs about the trauma often keep individuals stuck in a cycle of re-experiencing the event, leading to persistent emotional distress. By helping clients identify and challenge these distorted thoughts, CPT facilitates the development of healthier cognitive patterns, enabling individuals to process their trauma in a way that reduces its emotional grip and promotes long-term healing.

Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) is a highly structured, evidence-based psychotherapy designed to help individuals recover from the psychological effects of trauma.

How Can CPT Help?

CPT helps individuals break free from the cycle of re-experiencing trauma by addressing the maladaptive thoughts that sustain their physiological and emotional suffering. According to CPT, these distorted beliefs, such as self-blame or the perception of a permanently altered world, perpetuate the symptoms of trauma and keep individuals in a state of distress.

What Conditions Does CPT Treat?

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

CPT helps reduce symptoms by addressing trauma-related thoughts and beliefs, allowing individuals to process and heal from their experiences.

moral injury

CPT helps individuals reconcile moral conflicts and distressing beliefs stemming from traumatic events, fostering a sense of resolution and inner peace.
