Therapy for Depression
Have you lost all energy and motivation?

Do you feel tired or apathetic?

Do you struggle with feelings of sadness, despair, or emptiness?
Depression can change the way you think about yourself and your future. It can make it difficult to make decisions, concentrate, and manage responsibilities. It can interfere with you achieving your goals and it can make you feel distant from others.
What is Depression?
Depression is a serious condition characterized by prolonged sadness, hopelessness, and lack of interest or pleasure in activities. Those who live with depression may experience:
-
Difficulty getting out of bed
-
Trouble feeling happy even when in the presence of loved ones
-
Irritability without knowing why
-
Emotionally numb, void or empty
-
Overwhelmed by the thought of having to complete basic tasks or fulfil normal responsibilities
-
Difficulty focusing, organizing one’s thoughts or making decisions
-
Feeling as though they are not good enough, that they have let others down, or that they are a failure
-
A desire to withdraw from social events, activities and engagements
-
Trouble sleeping or eating
-
Thoughts of death or of ending one's life

Depression can co-occur with other conditions such as anxiety, grief, or PTSD, and can lead to unhealthy coping such as substance use.
If you are experiencing symptoms of depression, you are not alone. According to the Canadian Mental Health Association, approximately 8% of adult Canadians will experience major depression in their lifetime. However, of those, approximately only half will seek support.
How Can Therapy for Depression Help?
Therapy is an effective treatment for depression and can help you gain a deeper understanding of all the factors that can contribute to the development and maintenance of symptoms. During the course of therapy, you will learn effective ways to alleviate the severity of depressive symptoms and develop a plan to manage depression long term.
At centre wellness, we do not believe in a "one size fits all" approach to therapy. Many treatment modalities are effective in the treatment of depression including Interpersonal Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, EMDR, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and Mindfulness-based Therapies.
With therapy, you can reconnect to the pleasures in life, relationships that are meaningful, and goals you wish to achieve. In seeking guidance and support, you can avoid "just getting by" and begin living a life you love.
