Let’s face it, life isn’t always easy and sometimes, stress can exceed our ability to cope and that’s okay. Reaching out for support takes courage and strength, often at a time when even the small tasks feel overwhelming... So if you found yourself on this page seeking help, good for you! You may have already experienced the benefits of psychotherapy, or maybe this is your first time and you don’t even know where to start. This is not uncommon. People often come therapy because they notice a change in themselves. You may have noticed that you aren’t coping as well as you used to, you’re more reactive, work is slipping, relationships are in chaos, or the things that usually make you happy don’t seem to be working anymore.

We can work collaboratively to identify treatment goals, develop skills and monitor progress over time to ensure you are feeling better and functioning more like yourself again. Working with an objective psychologist who is not a friend, family member, or colleague is key to the therapeutic progress. This sense of safety allows you to non-defensively explore the beliefs about yourself, others and the world that drive your behaviour. These beliefs are shaped by our experience and sometimes, they’re not balanced or serving us well anymore.

Therapy often involves healing from past experiences, improving self-awareness, and strengthening coping skills. Through our work, it is my hope that you feel empowered to create a happy and healthy life that exceeds our time together.

I am a Registered Psychologist in Supervised Practice with the College of Psychologists of Ontario, supervised by Dr. Simone Cunningham. My declared competencies are in Clinical Psychology and Forensic/Correctional Psychology.

I obtained my undergraduate degree at the University of Western Ontario and completed my Master’s and Ph.D. at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ontario. My graduate training in Northwestern Ontario helped to shape my professional identity. I provided mental health services in an inpatient hospital, sexual behaviours program and various community mental health organizations in urban and rural areas. I have years of experience working with Indigenous populations.

In Thunder Bay, I worked in a private practice for several years serving a variety of specialized groups including first responders, couples, veterans and individuals injured on the job or in motor vehicle accidents.
Most recently, I have worked in a correctional environment providing psychotherapy to offenders and conducting assessments (i.e., diagnostic and risk of violence).

More than just my work:

The therapeutic relationship can feel one-sided at times because our clients are sharing such personal, vulnerable stories with us. To help you get a head start on that balance, here are a couple of things about me.

Authenticity is a core value. Developing a sense of security in myself has had a positive ripple effect in my life. My two golden rules: be yourself and be kind.

Playfulness is another core value of mine. In a world of mounting pressure, we tend to forget our first source of joy…. Play. Make time to be silly, joke around, let go, climb, explore and be curious.

Things that never fail to make me happy or relaxed: my rescue dogs, sunshine, exercise, sitting by the water, good food, fishing, singing and dancing (although I do not claim to be good at either), watching football and laughing.
